National Honour for Woolly Sheep, Skipton

September 2014 – Having already won Best Managed Pub and Best Cellar for the Yorkshire, North East and Scotland region the Woolly Sheep, Skipton was crowned Best Managed Pub in the UK at the Great British Pub Awards 2014 held in London last week. This was coupled with coming second nationally and being highly commended in the Best Cellar competition.

The awards are organised by the industry’s leading trade magazine The Publican’s Morning Advertiser and are regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the pub trade. The magazine’s editor Rob Willock said: ‘The awards recognise excellence in pubs. The judges were really impressed with the Woolly Sheep’s strong cask ale sales growth, its well kept cellar and the immaculate retail standards.

The popular Skipton town centre pub is no stranger to winning awards having been voted Yorkshire’s favourite pub in the Welcome to Yorkshire Pub of the Year competition.

The Timothy Taylor’s owned pub is managed by Andy Goodall and his wife Andrea. A jubilant Andy, who has over 15 years experience running Taylor’s pubs said: ‘This is the icing on the cake! Awards such as these are achieved through hard work and a complete commitment to maintaining the very highest standards of service and that is down to our staff. I am backed by a great team serving fine cask beers and excellent quality food.

All this follows Timothy Taylor’s celebrating Boltmaker, their true Pennine bitter, winning Supreme Champion Beer of Britain at CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival in August.
