Crossroads Inn, Wainstalls Marks 100 Years of Ripon Races Trips with Charity Fundraiser

September 2025 saw a very special day for Timothy Taylor's pub, the Crossroads Inn at Wainstalls, as regulars and friends came together for the pub’s much-anticipated annual trip to Ripon Races – a tradition that began all the way back in 1925.

This year was no ordinary outing, though. It marked the 100th anniversary of the very first trip, making it a true milestone for the pub and its community. To celebrate, customers recreated a group photograph in the spirit of the original 1925 image, which still hangs proudly on the wall of the Crossroads. Seeing the two pictures side by side captures the joy, fun, and continuity of this century-old tradition.

As well as enjoying a great day at the races, the Crossroads family also put their energy into raising money for charity. Thanks to raffles, donations, and plenty of generosity, the trip raised an impressive £1,442.35 for Hug on a Tray, a wonderful local charity that provides comfort and support to patients and families on the St James’s Hospital, Bexley Wing, which is home to the Leeds Cancer Centre.

Landlady, Jayne and organisers at the Crossroads shared their pride in seeing the tradition reach its 100th year and their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the fundraising effort.

Here’s to another century of laughter, memories, and community spirit at the Crossroads Inn, Wainstalls!
