Following its much-talked-about debut, Northern Rising is making a comeback in cask - and this second release is more than just a re-stock. If you missed it the first time around (or simply want to get reacquainted), here’s what you need to know about the beer and where to find it now.
A Quick Refresher on the Beer
- Style & Origins: Northern Rising is the result of a collaboration between two of northern England’s most celebrated breweries, Northern Monk and Timothy Taylor's. It’s a stout - a style with deep roots, made famous in Dublin - reinterpreted through a Yorkshire lens.
- Taste & Ingredients: Expect roast barley and crystal malt to bring rich, chocolatey notes, balanced by Golden Promise malt (a Timothy Taylor's staple) for full body and satisfying mouthfeel.
- Strength & Format: It’s 4.4% ABV, available in cask and keg in selected pubs and venues, as well as in nitro stout cans for at-home enjoyment.
Russell Bisset, Co-Founder and Managing Director at Northern Monk, and Andy Leman, Timothy Taylor's Head Brewer at Taylor's on the Green, Keighley.
Where to Find Northern Rising
Northern Rising will be pouring at Timothy Taylor’s and Northern Monk venues on cask or keg, and in selected bars and pubs across the UK from early-October. See below for more information.
It's also available in nitro stout can in Morrisons stores and is available from both northernmonk.com and timothytaylorshop.co.uk.
A list of pubs that have bought Northern Rising in cask is included below. This does not include pubs who have bought through a wholesaler, so if you're unsure if your local sells it, it would be worth contacting them before you visit.
This list is updated weekly, so please check back for availability.
