Food and beer matching in aid of local Hospice

June 2015 – A gripped audience at The Woolly Sheep, Skipton, one of Timothy Taylor’s flagship pubs, was given the chance to sample a range Timothy Taylors beers matched with delicious food created by the pub’s award winning chefs. All entrance money and sales of merchandise was donated to Sue Ryder’s Manorlands Hospice based near Keighley.

The evening was hosted by Annabel Smith, one of Britain’s first female Beer Sommeliers. Annabel kept everyone entertained with her vast knowledge of the history of brewing, the benefits of craft ales, and why the foods served matched so well to the different styles of beer.

Guests took a vote on their favourite match and the winning combination was Timothy Taylors Ram Tam, a 4.3% dark, mellow beer that has body and depth, with Chocolate and Beetroot Brownie. Attendees were surprised by how drinkable the two Timothy Taylor’s dark beers were. A fact that Annabel qualified as she finds many consumers judge with their eyes before trying the beer and assume they are going to be heavy and bitter. Not the case at all.

Joint runners up were Landlord with Duck Pate, and Golden Best with Rhubarb Crumble.

Heike Funke, Operations Manager for Timothy Taylors said ‘Our beers suit a diverse range of foods and we are keen to encourage guests to sample our full range of beers matched with dishes on the menu. It was great to hold the event in our new dining room created after a recent £600K investment at The Woolly Sheep. The room is ideally suited to small functions and private dining for a larger group’
