Whitelock’s Ale House Win Competition To Brew Exclusive Beer With Timothy Taylor’s Brewery

Leeds-based pub, Whitelock’s Ale House, and Keighley’s Timothy Taylor’s brewery have joined forces to launch a new stout, named after the year the pub was founded; 1715.

Whitelock’s won the biannual Timothy Taylor’s Champion Club draw in June. This meant that the Whitelock’s team, led by General Manager Beth Templeton, had the chance to visit Timothy Taylor’s and work closely with Head Brewer, Andy Leman, to design a bespoke beer.

1715 Stout has been brewed using all-British Fuggles and Whitbread Golding Variety hops, along with Golden Promise Pale Ale Malt, Roasted Barley, Chocolate and Crystal Rye Malts. The delicious combination will leave it dark with ruby hues, while the aroma will have roasted coffee, and a touch of sweetness and the taste will have both coffee and chocolate notes. The beer comes in at 5% ABV.

This limited-edition stout will be launched at Whitelock’s Ale House on Thursday 4 April, alongside a Timothy Taylor’s takeover of the taps, and will also be available at the Meanwood Tavern and in London exclusively at the Pembury Tavern.

Whitelock’s General Manager Beth Templeton commented: "We love Timothy Taylor’s and their commitment to quality beers - Landlord is one of the biggest sellers we serve at Whitelock’s. When the opportunity came along to brew a beer together, we jumped at the chance. We feel it’s a perfect marriage of two Yorkshire institutions!".

Scott Cameron, Senior Brand Manager at Timothy Taylor’s: "Whitelock’s Ale House has always been a pub that we at Timothy Taylor’s hold in very high regard.

"Their place in our Champion Club, which is an honour we only bestow on the best-of-the-best, is testament to the team’s hard work and care of our cask ales, namely Landlord which sits permanently on their bar.

"To have them over to brew with us was fantastic, and 1715 Stout promises to be a delicious beer. We can’t wait to celebrate with them at the launch event on 4 April."
