Top Awards for The Cross Roads Inn

February 2014 – It is just over two years since Peter Conlin and Jayne Barton moved North to take The Cross Roads Inn at Wainstalls and in that time they have built up a reputation for serving excellent pub food, super cask ales and having great fun nights. The hard work has paid off as they have been rewarded with two important food and beer quality assessments with top marks.

Eighteen months ago they received the Cask Marque award for the quality of their beer and recently picked up 100% in the searching re-tests.

At the same time Calderdale Council carried out an inspection of the kitchens and awarded a top five star rating. The food hygiene is a tough rating system, run by the Food Standards Agency and makes sure the highest standards are kept at all times.

Commenting on the awards Peter said ‘Beer quality is very important to our customers and this award is a pleasing recognition that we are getting it right. As a Timothy Taylor owned pub we always have a great choice of their award winning beers on the bar.’

Referring to the food Peter, who is a trained chef, added ‘As a dining destination pub obviously food hygiene is extremely important to us so it’s good to know everything is spot on. I believe in simple, freshly prepared, quality food that is value for money. This certainly seems to have hit the right note as we have now built up a good regular trade with customers coming back time and time again. Sunday lunches are proving to be particularly popular.’

Timothy Taylor’s Pub Director Andrew Daykin said ‘Peter and Jayne have done a fantastic job in re-establishing the Cross Roads reputation for both excellent food and beer. These awards are much deserved reward for all their effort’

Since taking over Peter and Jayne have introduced a number of new ideas including themed food nights, quiz nights with wine and tapas plus local band nights. On Saturday 15th March they are planning a special St Patrick’s Day celebration.

Last year’s better Summer weather was an unexpected bonus with both the pub’s six bedrooms and newly developed garden proving to be extremely popular. The Crossroads is a dog welcome pub and has installed three hitching posts for riders to tie up their horses when calling in. So two legs or four, you will love making you way to this exceptional pub.
