The Darker Shade of Pale - Landlord Dark
One of the fastest-growing cask ales now has a dark side
Landlord Dark originates from the multi award-winning Landlord Pale Ale, but brewed with caramelised sugars to give a rich yet light and drinkable dark ale.
Landlord sales are up 54.7% vs. 3 years ago according to CGA data* (pre-Covid measure) and it remains the only cask ale brand in growth. Landlord Dark, due to Landlord's ongoing success and its namesake, benefits from the significant, continued investment in building the brand.
After launching in January 2020, previously known as Ram Tam, Landlord Dark has risen through the ranks and is selling well in pubs across the UK. Its popularity as a beer highlighted by currently being the third fastest-growing premium bottled ale** - selling at 80% of the rate of sale of Landlord in listed retailers, even over the summer months.
Landlord Dark has also benefitted from an ever-increasing interest in dark beers (the style won CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and also won SIBA Beer of the Year for the last three years). Drinkers are becoming more experimental, particularly younger legal drinking age ones, and seek choice of beer styles on the bar.
